STEMI

DESCRIPTION:
Thousands of ST-segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) patients fail to receive critical therapy in a timely fashion each year, and nearly 30 percent do not receive any reperfusion treatment at all. As a result, the American Heart Association created the STEMI Provider Manual to help address the ongoing need for training in the early recognition of STEMI.

CONTENT

STEMI systems of care (out-of-hospital and in-hospital settings)
• Acute coronary syndromes (ACS) pathophysiology
• STEMI identification and treatment
• Appendix – 12-lead ECGs with annotations for self-study

FEATURES

STEMI clinical information, including steps needed to attain treatment goals
• Direction on 12-lead ECG as a key tool in triage and treating Acute Coronary Syndromes (ACS)
• Distinguishing ECG findings for identifying patients into three ACS categories
• Steps for fibrinolytic therapy and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)
• Identifying pharmacologic agents for pain relief and reperfusion therapy
• Includes ECG ruler as companion tool

FORMAT

Self-directed learning through review of the 80-page booklet and online exam.

CERTIFICATION

This course does not offer American Heart Association course completion certification.

Students complete review of the booklet and learning objectives in about 1.5 hours (including the online test).

After review, students use the voucher provided in each Manual to logon to the American Heart Association’s Professional Education Center and access the 20-question online exam and CME/CE credit.

$49.95ea.

This set conveniently combines the self-study STEMI Provider Manual with the companion ECG ACS Ruler to help out-of-hospital and emergency department personnel rapidly assess, diagnose, and treat ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients. With the major goals of keeping door-to-needle time within 30 minutes for patients without contraindications, and door-to-balloon time within 90 minutes, the manual covers out-of-hospital and emergency department systems of care for STEMI, STEMI identification and treatment, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS) pathophysiology. The appendix includes 12-lead ECGs with annotations for self-study. The manual is a continuing education-accredited activity. The ECG ACS Ruler is a companion tool for ACS electrocardiogram (ECG) analysis and recognition that graphically defines ACS ECG findings for heart injury, ischemia, and infarction; gives directions on how to measure ST deviation with a transparent "window" grid; has 2 transparent grids calibrated to 25 mm/s paper -- the "window" grid that is placed over the ECG tracing to measure the ST segment at the appropriate time after the J point (0.04 second for ACS and 0.08 second for stress testing), and an interval grid that is used to measure PR, QRS, and QT intervals. The ruler also identifies infarct location with ECG graphics for specific leads for anterior, inferior, and lateral infarct; lists normal values for PR, QRS, and QTc intervals; and has ruler markings to estimate heart rate, inch, and cm. (The ECG ACS Ruler (80-1181) is also sold separately.)

Written Exam

  • For the STEMI level, there is a written exam (Multi-Choice) of which you will be required to pass with at least 84%
